Why Are Ipswich Town Keeping Mum Over Hirst?

George Hirst was apparently spotted driving into Portman Road yesterday afternoon and according to some sources, a medical followed. So then, why all this secrecy?

It appears that during the closed season Town are keeping all its cards very close to its chest, but they must have been aided by the local media outlets if the above story holds true. The news about Hirst broke in an article this morning, which suggested that the deal was more or less done and dusted, and if he has since taken and passed a medical, then surely it is! Unless of course, further complications have arisen?

I suggest further complications because the deal to get Hirst back to Portman Road has already been very protracted. The Foxes wanted him to stay but Hirst wanted to leave and after much consultation, Leicester City decided there was not much point in keeping a player whose heart was no longer in it. That makes perfect sense to me.

Reliable sources have informed me that the deal is virtually done and dusted, but until we know he has put pen to paper there is still nervousness among us. It could just be a case of  Ipswich finding the perfect moment to hold a press conference, and this could be as early as tomorrow afternoon. I hope so anyway. All this suspense is killing me!

    Great signing if its true

    • Frank Weston says:

I am sure you know now Paul that it is indeed true. George Hirst has signed on a four-year deal for around 1.5 million and I like you am delighted! A cousin of mine who was the reason that I started supporting Town in 69 gave me his view on Simms. This guy has followed Everton home and away for the last 60 years and missed just two matches in that time so I do take him seriously.

“I was very surprised Ellis Simms went for as much as the £6m – £8m reported in most media. We are desperate to raise cash so I was not surprised we sold him but expected the fee to be about £4m. I did not expect a Championship club without parachute money, to be in the market for him though Coventry obviously have the finance from the imminent Gyokeres sale. It will be fascinating to see how Ellis fares. From what I have seen of him through the Academy/Development/Loan pathway he is a very effective finisher but has always seemed to lack the presence and work rate demanded of modern day top strikers. My Preston friend rates Tom Cannon very highly after his successful loan spell at Deepdale in the second half of last season.”

Hi Frank just found under the EFL banner that George signed for the Town two days ago itfc/lcfc mentioned but no other details. May have been a tweet. As usual I cannot now find it again. Perhaps you can with your superior expertise hope that this is correct………….All best Barry

    • Frank Weston says:

I have just read this Barry but as I am sure you know, George Hirst has signed for Town on a four-year deal for 1.5 million. Interestingly, all our recent signings have been reported as 1.5 million so does this mean this is our financial ceiling, or conversely, it is an amazing coincidence or thirdly, Town are giving the press what they need which is a price tag but it might be a long way from the truth.

  • Terry Fry says:

Mr Ashton likes pulling rabbits out of the hat Frank rather than broadcast our business.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see us go in for a second striker too and the Arsenal Defender.

News on the Crystal Palace winger on loan seems to have gone quiet. Any info from your sources Frank?

    • Frank Weston says:

Nothing with regard to that Crystal Palace winger Terry, but I have been told there is more transfer activity on two separate fronts. So mate, we will all have to hold our breath.

    • Frank Weston says:

News just in that Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is still interesting both Ipswich Town and Cardiff City but Crystal Palace are reluctant to let him go out again on loan, but might be persuaded to sell him at the right price. The 20-year-old enjoyed a fabulous season on loan with Palace’s rivals Charlton Athletic in League One last season and they are also monitoring the situation but for his development he needs to go a notch higher in the football pyramid it is thought. Remember, too, that Premier League Luton were said to be keen on the player so if they come in there is only one place he would want to be.

  • Mark Bing says:

Well done Frank, and to think people were questioning your sources last week lol

    • Frank Weston says:

You might get the news here first Mark, but of course, the cynics work overtime trying to prove you wrong!

  • barry girling says:

Hello Frank, it is sooooooo quiet at present the suspense is killing us- any whispers to keep us going please…….see Whitaker has been acquired yes acquired by Plymouth……… all Best …..Barry

    • Frank Weston says:

The big whisper I think you will know Barry is that is Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea could be signing on a season-long loan deal with Town but West Brom are still sniffing around too.
