As Town Wait And Watch Others Around Them Progress

They often say it is better to have points in the bag than games in hand. Unfortunately, Ipswich Town have to play the waiting game as their rivals continue to pick up points.

Last week, Town sat proudly at the top of the Championship table by default. Town only managed two draws at home to Watford and Middlesbrough, but that was enough to see them on top of the football league tree, simply because both Leeds and Leicester lost! Then we had to watch on, as we stayed in the pit lane and witnessed our rivals overtake us.  As things stand, we have dropped to third in the table, but with games in hand.

Tonight a rejuvenated Foxes side plays Southampton, and this is the last chance corral for the Saints, who need to win to retain any hope of an automatic promotion spot. On paper, at least, there seems to be only one winner, as confidence from the home side has been renewed, after their narrow victory over WBA at the weekend.

Ipswich have had to wait and watch, as these fixtures have unfolded and sadly, so far, it has been a painful accumulation of points for our rivals. Will this continue? We just have to hope that something goes a bit astray sooner rather than later. By the time Ipswich visit Hull on Saturday, Leeds and Leicester will have played twice, so if they continue to win matches it will become increasingly difficult for the Tactor Boys to claw back those points. The two away games to Hull and Coventry could define our season.
