Who will play for Town versus Preston tonight? Here are my thoughts on the subject.

I think that manager Kieran McKenna will field a strong team tonight because he will want to find out what his best side can do in the Championship, and this is a good test against opposition from the same division. Is it a good idea? I guess only time will tell.

We can expect Walton to start in goal, and perhaps only Freddie Ladapo will be a surprise starter. I expect George Hirst to play some part though, but not immediately.

Wes Burns is still suffering from a small niggle and I would not expect George Edmundson to begin, as he is also struggling with a reoccurring ankle small problem.

I would like to see Kyle Edwards selected tonight, but once again, if Chaplin and Burns are fit, then he will probably have to be content with some bench-warming duties.

And on an entirely different subject, I was interested to read that our manager is considered to be the number one manager in the Championship! This is a bit bizarre as he has never managed there before, but I am quite sure he won’t disgrace himself. And the latest computer rankings as to where Town will finish next season find us one place above our arch-rivals from across the border in 6th spot. I think we would all gladly take that! We know that next season will be a transitional period so that would do fine.

By contrast, our old foes from last season Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday could find themselves in the relegation zone – along with Huddersfield Town, Rotherham United, and Cardiff City. This comes on top of EFL pundit Carlton Palmer suggesting that Ipswich Town would do a lot better than the other two newly promoted teams.
