Burns Night At Plough Lane

As I have said on so many separate occasions, it is our momentum that will decide if we make the play-off’s or not? At the moment we have it, and if we can continue to pick up three points on a regular basis, then we could still fly through this league. That is now four wins out of five under new boss Kieron McKenna, which means he has an 80% win ratio so far. We were on top too against Bolton for large periods but we all know we are not going to win every match. Put another way that is 12 points out of a possible 15, and the best run we have been on all season!

Now we must not get ahead of ourselves, but we all know that there is one club every season that manages to pull clear of the pack with a sustained run of good form. I sense that this year it could be us and why not? Under Paul Cook, we struggled to put two wins together on the bounce, but already McKenna has achieved this twice, and the team are playing with collective self-belief and this is always beneficial when it comes to building sustained momentum.

The travelling blue army is also giving the squad a sense of purpose, and their fantastic support has ensured that wherever we go, we have a great following behind the team.  Another 1,200 supporters travelled to Wimbledon last night. This aspect cannot be understated because as David Sheepshanks once alluded to, success is only achieved when everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Last night we saw a Town side under the cosh at the beginning of the second half but who weathered the storm, moved into another gear and put the home side to bed. It was clinical finishing that did it and a good substitution. Macauley Bonne made sure of the victory when he cleverly played a cross-field ball out to Wes Burns and he did the rest with another sensational strike. Norwood had fed him in for the first when Burns found himself in an almost identical position.  Burns later said that the side is brimming with confidence. ” It’s just about us building momentum, ticking off each game as it comes.” And in an outer borough of London yesterday, Burn’s night was revisited.
