The M-Word Will Define Our Season

I have said it until I have been blue in the face, but I must reiterate once again that it is the momentum that we see in our performances these days that will see us through to the play-offs.  I am now more confident than I have been all season that Town can get there, and I don’t mind being blue in the face!

Earlier this month I looked ahead to our forthcoming fixtures. I did not see us losing to Bolton but we did – although I thought we would draw at AFC Wimbeldon and we won! I predicted 8 points from four games but this can no longer happen. That Wanderers defeat messed things up but if we were to be victorious at Hillsborough we would have accrued 9 points from 4 matches which would be even better! In reality, this is a very big ask, and I would be happy with a draw in Yorkshire to be honest. It is not an easy place to visit, and although we will have a big following travelling there on Saturday, we witnessed earlier in the season at Portma Road just how vociferous those Wednesday supporters are! If we win in Yorkshire it would be an outstanding victory.

There is little doubt that other clubs in and around us will have noticed our change of style and our winning ways under new boss Kiron Mckenna. He is essentially playing with the same squad that former manager Paul Cook recruited, but he has moulded them into a winning machine, and this is a bit of a novelty in itself. It’s a long time since we were able to say that! Town are playing with a collective sense of confidence these days, and it shows in the way we are playing our football.

The bad news is that the two teams directly above us, Plymouth and Oxford, have a game in hand and Wigan in top spot have four games more to play, but this will not enter into the equation, as we will not be battling with them. They are almost home and dry, and it confirms my worst fears that we got the wrong end of the Paul Cook/Leam Richardson partnership. But the M-word is often understated in football. We have it now and if we continue with it, we WILL make the play-off’s, and we could find our place in the Championship after all. Come on you Blues!
