Is Pigott In For A Surprise Recall?

Joe Pigott left AFC Wimbledon after three years to join the Blues under Paul Cook. He now finds himself on the fringes of the first team, but could he be recalled tonight, as Town face his former club in the southwest of the City of London? Pigott played 137 times for our hosts and scored 47 times, which is an impressive goalscoring ratio.

He was prolific with Maidstone United too, netting 17 times in 45 appearances, and this included a loan spell with the club. At Ipswich, he has not been involved anywhere near as much as he would have wished. In fact, to date, he has made just 14 appearances in a Blues shirt scoring twice. This was not what we had expected when he joined us this summer but of course, nobody expected Macauley Bonne to be so good! Competition for places in the striking department has meant he has had to bide his time so far, but with Bonne struggling to find the net as frequently as earlier in the season, could this be the time that Ipswich boss Kieron McKenna decided to give him a start?

In all likelihood, it won’t happen. He has not played enough football of late to be thrown into the fray and instead, might find himself on the bench again. He needs game time though and then I think we will probably see the best of him. He has been on bench-warming duties for the last 6 matches but has only been used twice. I feel sure that if things are not going to plan this evening then he will be utilized again. We all know how former players have bitten us in the bum before, and I am sure Pigott will be dying to play some part in proceedings this evening.

I would have him on the bench at least tonight (Wednesday morning NZ time).

Stating the obvious, crucially important match for us.

Need the 3 points, simple as that. Draw not good enough. Defeat would be disastrous.

Pigott got on the bench but never came on Richard, so this must have been disappointing for a player who would clearly have hoped to be involved against his former club.

It’s looking bleak for Pigott first Norwood jumps ahead of him in the queue and now it’s Jackson. McKenna explained after the match that Jackson was selected after impressing in training. Pigott has now played under three managers and has failed to impress any of them can they all be wrong. In my opinion he hasn’t shown the necessary desire or work rate to warrant a place in the team and looks disinterested. Maybe he’s just not settled at a bigger club and a move elsewhere would be more beneficial.

Yes Keith, although Pigott was on the bench, he must have been very disappointed not to get on against his former club. Something is not quite right and obviously, when he trains, he clearly does not impress. Worrying times for Joe.

Im afraid Frank players are not going to get any special favours because it’s their former club or club they supported as a boy etc. It’s all about the team getting the result not about one player. I hear fans saying this player and that player should be given a run of games it doesn’t happen in professional football you have to earn the right.

Very important win. We are definitely in the play offs mix now.
Really need to win at Wednesday at the weekend but a draw wouldn’t be the ned of the world. Win though, and the teams above us will be looking over their shoulders thoughtfully.
Being realistic, we wouldn’t have taken 12 points out of the last 15 up for grabs if PC had been at the helm!

It was, indeed Richard, and although we were not penetrating the Wimbledon defence in the first half, we got our just rewards in the end. Momentum is everything, and now we have some.
