Having offered trialist Shane O’Connor a one year contract, Ipswich are reportedly set to hold talks with released West Brom defender Carl Hoefkens.
The Belgian has been capped over 20 times by his country and is also said to be interesting Roy Hodgson’s Fulham as well as Watford. He was released from the Hawthorns at the end of last season after making a £800,000 switch from Stoke two years ago.
Ipswich have before been linked with a move for the centre half who can also play at right back, but nothing came of the reported interested last winter.
Another defender doesn’t appear to be on gaffer Roy Keane’s wish-list after the failed moves for midfielder Dean Whitehead and striker Daryl Murphy – you would have thought that he would be looking for players instead of those two, not a defender. Centre back Troy Brown has signed already this transfer window as has left back Damien Delaney, while O’Connor can also play at left back.
