Trialist Shane O’Connor is set to sign a one year contract at Ipswich.
He had done enough in the reserves’ 8-0 win over Gorlestone last week, a game in which he scored twice, to earn himself a spot in the tour squad for Town’s two games in Ireland. He played against Waterford at left-back, just one of a number of positions that he can play.
O’Connor, 19, comes from Cork and was at Liverpool as a youngster where he was part of an FA Youth Cup winning side.
Gaffer Roy Keane confirmed that he expects Shane to sign on soon and become Town’s fourth summer signing, but he needs to be polished before being considered for the first team: ‘We have offered Shane a one-year deal and I expect he will sign it. He still has a lot to do and will be with the development squad over the next couple of months.”
