Brian Klug has been sacked from his role on the coaching staff at Ipswich Town, ending an association with the club that has spanned over three decades.

The 49-year-old was on the books at Portman Road as a youth team player from 1977 to 1983, before returning to the club four years later in a coaching capacity.

Klug had a role as academy manager, which saw the likes of Keiron Dyer and Richard Wright come through the ranks – both the mentioned players went onto play for England. Undoubtedly his greatest moment in his time at the club came in 2005, as his youth side won the FA Youth Cup in a dramatic final second leg against Southampton.

Jim Magilton then replaced Joe Royle as manager, with Klug moving into a first team role under Jim. He was second in command until John Gorman was appointed as assistant towards the end of 2008.

However, Roy Keane’s arrival at the club meant a reduced role for the popular figure, especially with the current gaffer bringing in a number of his own staff.

I guess all that is left to say is… thanks for the hard work Bryan!
