The Blues are likely to go back in for Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp, even though he has already knocked them back once.
Ipswich made an offer of around £2.3m for Sharp last summer but he chose to stay at the Keepmoat.
“They were interested, both clubs spoke,’ admitted Sharp. ‘Ipswich is a great club but it was not the right time for me at that point.
“The chairman has been fantastic to me and it wasn`t right at that time.
“I have another year at Doncaster and I will give my best for them until someone tells me otherwise.”
But the hitman who netted for Rovers in the 3-2 win over the Blues last Saturday did offer a tantalising statement when asked if it was a possibility he could join Town in the future, without actually committing himslef one way or another.
“It would be a fantastic club to play for,’ he said.
Doncaster may have to sell in January if a clause in his contract allowing him to talk to clubs once a certain transfer price is agreed, is exercised but there may be another club more appelaing to Sharp.
Southampton are understood to be keen on the striker with Nigel Adkins a known admirer.
