Connor Wickham is set to become Ipswich’s youngest ever first-team player after being withdrawn from the England U16 squad.

Will Wickham get a game?

The England youth side are due to play in a tournament in France next week, but Wickham has been called back to Portman Road, where he is in line to make his first appearance in a Town shirt this weekend.

Doncaster are the visitors to Suffolk this Saturday and if he plays, he would be just 16 years and 11 days old, beating current record-holder Jason Dozzell’s record by 46 days.

Wickham was on the bench for the Blues’ FA Cup third round win over Chesterfield at Portman Road in January, but was an unused substitute.

‘I would not have taken him off international duty if he wasn’t in my thoughts for the weekend but we will see how he gets on this week,’ manager Jim Magilton told the club site.
