McCarthy Giving Little Away

Mick McCarthy wasn’t in the mood to reveal too much in the wake of the four-nil win over Shelbourne on Saturday, the Ipswich boss remaining ‘tight lipped’ on various issues.

Freddie Veseli, who ended the season on loan with Bury, wasn’t included but is back with the club following a trial spell with Swiss outfit Lausanne but McCarthy claims not to know ‘what’s happening’ with the former Man United and Man City defender.

He told The EADT: ‘He went out to Lausanne on trial.

‘He’s back now and I don’t know what’s happening with him, but they wanted to have a look at him.’

One that continues to be linked with us is Bartosz Bialkowski, however as yet the Notts County ‘keeper hasn’t come to Portman Road.

Not willing to talk about someone else’s player, for which I have the utmost respect for McCarthy on as all too often far too many managers do this and it is disrespectful, the boss added that when a deal is done with any play that is when the club will ‘tell people about it’.

As far as the pre-season friendly itself went he doesn’t, rightly so, read too much into these games but would sooner ‘win them’ and a clean sheet was also something he was happy with.

McCarthy added: ‘It’s nice to keep a clean sheet and nice for the lads who score the goals, they get off the mark but we should beat them.

‘These games don’t really matter, but I prefer to win them than lose them.’
