Jewell Is Dead Man Walking At Ipswich

Whether it is today, this week or at worst, next month, Paul Jewell will not be Ipswich manager for much longer.

Defeated, dejected and a dismal figure faced the press after another dreadful performance, apart from a second half, spell, Jewell sounded like a man on the brink of wrapping it all in before he gets the call from Marcus Evans.

Jewell saw his team, and it is his team, savaged by the Tigers in the first half and admitted: “It`s the same old story isn`t it?”
“The first two goals are bad goals, we get ourselves back in the game second half, have two good opportunities to equalise, then they get a third goal. You`d have to see it to believe it really.

“This sums us up really, that`s why we are where we are – because of that calamitous defending.’

The hapless manager who has allowed Ivar Ingarmarsson to leave a sinking ship, and so admitting they another terrible decision, conceded the defence he did put put are as useless as all the others.

He said: “Anyone who was here will say that if you saw the goals that were conceded at a lot lower level you`d still be scratching your head.

“We`re just not defending individually or as a group. It`s like they`re taking it in turns to make a rick. They`re just basic, basic errors.

“Any strength test we lose, any race test we lose. It was the same last week against Forest, it was the same against Reading. We don`t win enough battles.”

Even though Town did rally in the second half the defeated Jerwell sounded just as defeated when trying to find the good points.

“I suppose you can take some positives from the second half, but we`re saying this every week,’ he groaned. ‘We`re giving teams goal starts every week – even when we beat Barnsley we had to come from 2-0 down.

“We showed character second half, but why can`t we show that from the start?

“Showing it for 45 minutes isn`t enough. We`ve got to show character from the first whistle to the last whistle.”

If the wheels are clearly coming off for Town the DIY job has fallen apart too on Damien Delaney who went off injured in the first half and with Ivar Ingarmarsson gone Town are even more of a mess defensively than they were before.

It is clear Jewell is at the end of his tether and Vital Football expects he will walk, as he has done before when he has realised he can’t do any more, by this time next week.
