We all know about Town’s interest in Jack Taylor, but Posh owner Daragh MacAnthony convinced us all that this would not happen – that was until late today when it did!

Taylor, who became twenty-five last Friday, was first targeted by the Blues last summer but nothing happened, They tried again in January but all to no avail and it looked as if the deal was dead in the water when MacAnthony suggested that he would not be going to Town.  CEO Mark Ashton became so frustrated by the lack of progress that he began to set his sights on Derby County’s Jason Knight. And then over the weekend, the deal was revived once more and by today it was only about the usual formalities.

Jack started out with the Chelsea Academy and left Cobham to join Barnet in 2012. The 6ft 1in tall midfielder Taylor spent seven years with Chelsea’s academy, before joining Peterborough for an initial £500,000. Jack who is now pushing for his first senior Republic of Ireland cap, has already made seven appearances for the U21 side, and a total of 125 league appearances for Posh, including all 46 in the 2022/23 League One regular season. Taylor has also completed more than 30 games in the Championship.

In his first interview for the Ipswich Town website, he said he was pleased to sign for a side that plays good football and has such ambition. “I’m over the moon to sign here. I’ve spoken to the manager on numerous occasions and I’ve not heard a bad word about him. I think the style of play really suits my game and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling!”

Another good signing, both for next season and in the longer term. By my reckoning that makes five signings for over a million since Kieran McKenna joined us last year.
Christian Walton, Harry Clarke, Leif Davis, Nathan Broadhead and now Jack Taylor!
The initial challenge for us next season is just getting used to second tier football again. Will be much harder than League 1 but looking on the bright side, lets not forget the way in which we put Rotherham to the sword in the FA Cup last season and matched an excellent Burnley side every step of the way over two cup ties.
My hope and expectation for next season is a top 10 finish, hopefully play offs and just possibly automatic promotion like Southampton and Norwich who both achieved back-to-back promotions 15 years or so ago

I more or less agree with you Richard, but I don’t want us to go up next season. It might seem crazy but this building process takes time, and I would gladly accept a top half finish as stage one of the great rebuild.

your probably right Frank. Perhaps a speeded up version of how Brentford adapted to life in the Championship and then pushed on up.
