Who Is Now On Ipswich Town’s Radar?

There are several players that Ipswich Town are closing in on but so far nobody has come through the door. This might all change in the next few days, and much depends on agents’ fees and the club’s negotiating skills. CEO Mark Ashton is very good at this.

The scourge of the modern football age is agents, and this has apparently stalled one of the club’s potential signings this week. It is still likely to happen, but not perhaps as quickly as we had hoped. I was criticised by someone who said that I am damaging the club’s reputation by throwing names out, but how else can we convey the very latest information ahead of the field, if we don’t? This is very much a double-edged sword.

I am not bothered about mentioning targets that are already in the public domain, but I am sensitive to revealing too much about other players who might be deep into negotiations with the club. I can see the argument from both sides, so I will always attempt to air on the side of caution with regard to any new transfer developments.

The latest name to be linked with Town is Derby County midfielder Jason Knight, and the 22-year-old has been a regular for the Rams over the past few years and he has represented the Republic of Ireland twenty times already. Born in Dublin, he is entering the last twelve months of his contract, and with the Rams missing out on promotion he may be tempted to move up the leagues. Bristol City has made two bids of around 1.5 million for the player, but nothing has come of it. The downside is that he is only 5ft 8 inches, Conor Chaplin is just 5ft 6 inches, so he could have some company down there!
