No Kidding From Keane

Roy Keane let rip into his Ipswich players after a woeful display in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Cork in their second and final game of their pre-season tour of Ireland.

Two second half goals from Cork were enough to beat the Blues, and RK says some players have reached the end of the road and he will be looking to sell them: ‘Some players had another opportunity to impress me and they didn’t take it. Some players have run out of chances.’

Speaking after the game, a shocked Keano said promotion was completely out of the question if his Ipswich side continued to play like they did: ‘Cork are a good team but the two goals we gave away were abysmal at any level. We started a bit sluggish and players weren’t holding the ball up and that made it a long 90 minutes.

‘If we had been there until midnight we weren’t going to score and you have to stick the ball in the back of the net.

‘That wasn’t good enough. You can’t kid a kidder and I’m not going say I’m delighted because that was not acceptable.

“After today I would have thought it [promotion] would be more like 22 years.’

However, the former Cork player did take a few positives from the game (although there weren’t many!): ‘The new lads are settling in and I’m pleased with them. Some players got some match practice but other than that few positives.’

Finally, RK is praying that Cork, currently facing a large tax bill that they cannot pay off, are not forced into liquidation: ‘You saw what a good team are and if they were to disappear in the next few weeks would be an absolute disaster. Please God will something fall into place for them.’
