Blues owner Marcus Evans does not expect Mick McCarthy to take Ipswich Town to the top flight, although that remains the aim.

McCarthy has said our club’s owner is ‘realistic’ in his dreams which relives the pressure bait on the boss.

‘Marcus is the same as me. He wants to aim as high as we can,’ McCarthy, told BBC Radio Suffolk. ‘But, like me, he is realistic about it as well.’

Evans, who owns 87.5% of Ipswich’s shares, and the most recent accounts showing the club’s debt to the businessman is more than £72m.

That probably means no one else would want to take the club on and Town fans have to hope Evans doesn’t pull the plug leaving us following in the wake of clubs like Coventry City and Portsmouth.

Or he could hang on, we could get into Premier League and he gets all his money back – happy days.
