Ipswich are holding talks with Cork midfielder Colin Healy about a possible move to Portman Road. Not quite the big name we were all hoping for!

The 29-year-old was discussing a move to League One Hartlepool when Town played and lost to Cork on Sunday. After the game, gaffer Roy Keane denied that he was after any players from his hometown club, but the situation appears to have changed.

In Roy I trust, but I hope that he isn’t signing Healy to save Cork from extinction. Of course he’s not, silly me. Ipswich may just make a bargain signing here, and there have been plenty coming from the Irish leagues – Kevin Doyle for example.

His past clubs include Sunderland and Celtic, and has also spent time with less glamourous sides such as Barnsley and Bradford. However, his career was put on hold for a couple of years in which he broke his leg twice.

I remember the last player from City we signed – he was dubbed the ‘King of Cork’ and went by the name of George O’Callaghan. Enough said.

If this goes ahead, the writing looks on the wall for Alan Quinn.
