You May Say I’m A Dreamer But …

We all know this classic encounter at Portman Road tomorrow afternoon will be the ultimate challenge.

A two goal advantage would be beyond our wildest dreams but I think it is possible and I predict a 3-1 win to Town.

Why you may ask? Well, I had a couple of dreams last night and one has already come true with the Conservatives winning the general election to the dismay of some and the delight of seemingly many!

Living here in the Netherlands means that these things do not impact on my life so much right now but the second dream most certainly does – even though the distances between us means I will not be present tomorrow to witness the real thing but I will of course see the action live on Sky.

Perhaps by way of consolation my dream foresaw a 3-1 win to Town but thankfully the dream was not as far fetched as usual because I did not come on from the subs bench and score the winning goal!

This adds much greater credibility to this dream sequence and it is filled with more details of the way things might transpire if my imagination is not deceiving me once again?

Town take an early lead as Freddy Sears is felled in the box and up steps Daryl Murphy to score his second spot kick in a week as he drives the ball into the far right corner of the net!

Just as the home fans were beginning to believe that Town could take a lead to Carrow Road in a week, Norwich levelled things when Nathan Redmond capitalized on a poor defensive clearance from Bartosz Bialkowski and slammed the ball home from the edge of the penalty area. It was a poor error and I held my head in horror!

The dream gets a bit fuzzy after this. I do recall however that Town were seriously under the cosh and we seemed all quite relieved when the half time whistle blew! I also have a very vague recollection of a strong penalty appeal by The Canaries which thankfully was waved away by the referee.

I spent far too long waiting in the Que for a pie and a pint at the interval and as I mounted the steps leading back into the Sir Bobby Robson stand there were roars of delight at the blues had scored again! Everyone was standing and cheering but who was it?

‘ Who was it?’ I asked eagerly and I was told that it was Tommy Smith from a corner and the Portman Road faithful were in blue heaven once again!

The last aspect of this blue dream that I can recollect was the endless waiting for the final whistle and a Norwich player getting a second yellow and walking towards the tunnel to the cheers and jeers of the local fans.

And just as the game was coming to a close, Freddie Sears showed some of his magic to wrestle himself free of the Canary defence and guide the ball home with an angled drive.

The crowd went ballistic and I fell out of bed with unbridled joy!
Then the whistle finally blew – or was it my alarm clock because I am not sure anymore and I went to work thinking to myself what an amazing dream – or was it something more than that? A football prophesy perhaps – or a dream that was made in paradise?

Whatever happens tomorrow though, the dream lives on and let us hope that after the final whistle blows on Saturday afternoon, we still have a dream that is worth clinging onto!

But I shall end by referring you to Dr. Samuel Johnson who once said, ‘ Were it not for imagination sir, a man would be as happy in the arms of a chambermaid just as much as a Duchess.’

Sleep on it folks!
