Would Lyndon Dykes Appeal To Ipswich?

This question was raised by one of our regular YouTube contributors Deano, and it is one worth giving some serious thought to. At 27, he is the perfect age for a striker and this Australian-born striker Lyndon Dykes is said to be unsettled at QPR, an might consider a move elsewhere. Contract talks have stalled so where might he move to?

He made a name for himself playing for Livingston in the Scotish Premier League, scoring 11 goals in 28 matches – which is not a bad stat, but at Rangers he has faired less well, scoring just 29 times in 113 appearances. In August 2020, Dykes signed a four-year contract for a fee said to be around 2 million, but he has received a mixed reception in West London. On his day he can be very good but he is far from prolific.

When I watched him play for Scotland in their play-off World Cup qualifier against the Ukrainians  I thought he was very poor, and was substituted at half-time. He got his own back though by scoring twice against them last September, in  their bid for Nations League promotion.  And of course, Scotland won that one 3-0 in Glasgow!

Whoever buys him will get an international footballer, and that sometimes comes with its own problems. He has already made 28 appearances for the Scots and he’s scored 8 times, so playing at a higher level certainly does not phase him. Although his goals per games ratio is poor, wherever he has played, he did end up as Ranger’s top scorer in 2021, and again last s season, with 8 goals and three assists in a side that just avoided the drop. QPR want Lyndon Dykes to agree to a new contract, but initial talks suggest the forward might not re-sign. And remember, Dykes is a player who is nearing the last year of his contract, so if he does not sign a new deal, he will soon be on his way!
