It was my Bangkok mate Simon Harbottle who put me onto a new What’s App community-based Ipswich Town supporters forum in South East Asia. I am glad he did!

The Tractor Boys Asian Tour group has members from all over this part of the world, and in Thailand alone, they have a few members in Bangkok and at least six in Phuket!

I don’t know about you, but even when I am on vacation I never switch off when it comes to Ipswich Town, and whenever the Super Blues play, I will find a way of watching them somewhere! This has often been in my hotel room late at night in Asia alone, but knowing where other supporters might be hanging out adds an extra dimension to supporting the Town. It is always more fun watching your favourite football team with likewise minds over a few beers. If they win then wonderful! If they lose, then there is no better place to drown your sorrows than with fellow fans.

We are off to Thailand again for a couple of months in November, so this is the perfect opportunity for a meet-up. There are Town supporters too in Pattaya, Udon Thani, and Surin, and one who runs a bar in Hua Hin, who has promised all true blue supporters a beer on the house should they frequent his establishment! A guy called Peter is the mastermind behind all this, so he deserves a special mention for making it all happen.

I looked at their What’s App chat today, and had a very interesting discussion about all things Town with regular contributors Bez and Andy Savage. We reminisced about Town’s unforgettable golden age when they spent 9 years in Europe, and twice came so close to winning the title! What an incredible period in our football history this was.

Living here in the Netherlands for the last 30-plus years makes me an ex-pat too, I guess, but it is much easier to get the boat over from here to Portman Road than it is for all our loyal supporters on the other side of the planet, that’s for sure! Anyway, folks if you live anywhere in South East Asia then why not tag along? They now have members in Vietnam, India, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Australia and they are expanding their membership all the time. If you want to join them, the link is below.
