Ipswich Town will face Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in a pre-season friendly at Portman Road on Saturday 30 July (KO 15:00).

A final big warmup match at Portman Road has become something of a tradition for Ipswich in recent years, with the likes of West Ham United, Lazio, Real Valladolid and Panathiniakos having provided the opposition in summers gone by. This year it is the turn of Mick McCarthy’s Wolves, who will be looking forward to a third season in the Premier League after finishing 17th to secure their survival on the final day of the 2010/11 season. The two teams last faced each other in a 0-0 draw at Molineux in March 2009.

The fixture looks likely to be the last in Town’s pre-season calendar, with the Blues kicking off their 2011/12 Championship campaign the following weekend. It is also the only home friendly announced so far, with Paul Jewell set to take his squad on the road for the rest of the fixtures including another trip to Holland.
