Bullard Slipping Away From Blues?

Former Ipswich Town loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard is reportedly set for talks over a possible move to Premier League newboys QPR.

Town manager Paul Jewell has repeatedly stressed that the chances are slim of the Blues securing a permanent return for Bullard, who has two years left on his reported £45,000-a-week contract at Hull City. With Ipswich unlikely to be able to stump up the kind of transfer fee or wages necessary to bring the Fans’ Player of the Year back to Portman Road, it now looks like the 32-year-old is destined for a move elsewhere.

Both QPR and Norwich City have been linked with Bullard since the end of his spell at Town. Rumours were widespread earlier in the week that the former Wigan Athletic midfielder could make the switch to Carrow Road after he was questioned about links with the Canaries in a TV interview on Saturday. ‘It’s a fantastic club and they’ve done really well to get into the Premier League, so who knows,’ Bullard told Sky Sports Soccer AM. ‘I just want to play some football somewhere. I wasn’t playing at Hull so to get some football next season would be top of my list really.’

Despite that speculation, it now appears Neil Warnock’s QPR are heading the chase for Bullard, who is reported to be holding talks at Loftus Road this afternoon (Thursday). Such rival interest from Premier League clubs is likely to put Ipswich out of the running for Bullard, who would surely be interested in another crack at the top flight having struggled with injuries in previous seasons at that level with Fulham and Hull.

Meanwhile Ipswich could also be set to miss out on goalkeeper Keiren Westwood. The Republic of Ireland international, who was linked with the Blues at the end of the season, is attracting interest from a number of clubs having rejected the offer of a new contract with Coventry City. Wolverhampton Wanderers are thought to be the latest to join in the race along with Premier League rivals Sunderland and Everton, whilst a move up the M69 to Leicester City is also a distinct possibility.
