Will Murphs Outscore Didz This Season?

Could this be the season when our strikers fire us up to the top of the Sky Bet Championship?

Watching the sheer brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo last night reminded me in the starkest terms that we are light years away from the cream of Europe, whatever our long term aspirations happen to be.

Carlo Ancelotti may throw money around like confetti but he has acquired a wonderful Real Madrid squad and like Barcelona and Bayern Munich they make our Premier fair look mediocre in the extreme.

Mick McCarthy on the other hand has to make do with free transfers and loan deals to scrape together a team and if we ever make it the top flight of English football again, we will have done it the hard way.

The fact that Ipswich Town football club are where they are today is not all bad news though. When we look at Coventry City we can see how bad things can get and if Roy Keane had have had his way, we may even have done a Cardiff and changed the colour of our shirts!

I have never been a big fan of Mick McCarthy I must admit but I cannot deny he has got the team playing for each other again and moving generally in the right direction. He has not only sorted out what was a very dodgy defence but is also now starting to get the best out of his midfielders too and let us not forget those fabulous strikers!

Daryl Murphy has excelled this season of this there is no doubt and he has found the net an astonishing 7 times in just 12 appearances for the Town!

David McGoldrick is stuck on four but if these two can remain injury free then there is every chance they could both bag 20 goals or more this term, if it is goals that win games.

This is what Town need I think to make the play-offs or beyond. We must not let one recent disappointing defeat ruin our season and that is why the game against Huddersfield Town this weekend at Portman Road is of paramount importance I believe.

Daryl Murphy is on fire. It is not just the goals he continues to score but their overall quality that is absolutely top draw.

We can only dream of a brighter future but with Murphs firing on all cylinders these days, I think even Cristiano Ronaldo could not fail to be suitably impressed!
