Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham has been named amongst the nominees for the npower Championship Player of the Month award for February.

The nomination comes after Wickham, who has re-established himself in the first team under Paul Jewell after an injury-hit start to the campaign, made up for lost time by netting 5 goals in the Blues’ last 8 league matches. In particular, the 17-year-old striker grabbed the headlines when he recorded his first professional hat-trick in Town’s 6-0 triumph away to Doncaster Rovers on 15 February.

That appears to have caught the eye of not only his usual potential Premier League suitors, but also the Football League, who have nominated him for the monthly award alongside Hull City’s Matty Fryatt, QPR’s Heidar Helguson and Leicester City’s Andy King.

Despite the attention and the constant rumours about his future, Wickham says he will not be distracted and is focusing purely on playing football for Ipswich.

‘I know what’s going on and it doesn’t really affect me or faze me, all I’m doing is playing my football,’ Wickham told BBC Radio Suffolk. ‘I’m happy here, I’m playing week-in week-out and scoring goals.

‘I signed a contract just a couple of weeks ago for another few years and that’s the way it is at the moment, I want to keep playing football at Ipswich Town.’

The winner of the award will be announced live on Sky Sports News from 10:00 on Friday morning.
