Why Ipswich Town Should Go Dutch Again

As the clock ticks with ever-increasing rapidity towards a new football season, Town’s transfer negotiations for a striker appear to have hit a brick wall. This is very worrying.

The Ellis Simms saga has dragged on too long, and Town should no longer pursue any interest in him. Everton are now talking about a fee somewhere in the region of 7 to 10 million for a player who did not make the grade in the top flight with one goal in a dozen appearances for the Toffees. CEO Mark Ashton must be extremely frustrated.

Admittedly, Simms was mainly a bench-warmer in the Premier, but it is absurd for the Merseyside club to expect so much for a player who has done so little in top flight of English football, and has only succeeded fleetingly when on loan with Sunderland.

We all know that strikers are the hardest to come by, and that is why Ipswich are struggling now that have gone up a division. It is very competitive, and perhaps it is time for the Blues to look outside of the English leagues and go Dutch again!

The forward in question is called Dylan Vente, and he currently plays for Roda JC in the second division of Dutch football. The Limburg club finished a disappointing 15th last season but Vente still managed to score 21 goals, and ended up as the league’s second highest scorer. He scores goals with both feet and his head, and last term was responsible not only for for six assists, but gained a couple of penalties in the process!

Vente is 24, which is a good age for a striker, and is around 6ft tall at 1.85 meters. In 98 matches for of professional football he has scored a staggering 51 goals! OK, it might be the second tier of Dutch football but he is doing it with a struggling club, and he would not cost an arm and a leg. More to the point, he is technically very good, and if you want to see some of his outstanding goals then I suggest you type in his name on You Tube and check him out for yourself! And whilst you’re there take a look at Being Frank On Ipswich Town because it is a daily vlog that accompanies these articles.

Ten million for a striker who could not get into a struggling Premier League team seems way over the odds Didn’t look a world beater what I saw of him at Sunderland on tv last season Look elsewhere
