Are Ipswich Playing Football Poker?

This is not what I had expected, and I am quite sure CEO Mark Ashton would agree with me, this transfer window has been nightmarish so far! We need more than just Jack Taylor and yet, he is the only player who belatedly came through the door.

The problem we face is twofold. Doing deals in the Championship is a lot more difficult than we found in League One, and the reason is obvious. It is one step from the Premier League if you get your squad right, and a lot of clubs are prepared to scrap like wolverines to get some flesh on their bones. They are all very hungry for success.

The Wolverine is a muscular carnivore and a solitary soul, with a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size. Sounds familiar? Well, it should. It is what Championships clubs aspire to. This division is one deep breath away from the elite league, and the clubs know it. It’s why they are fighting so fiercely for the same players.

It has gone quiet again at Portman Road. I can understand the club keeping its cards very close to its chest, but there is not a sniff of any new developments on the transfer front, and the gossip pages are full of the same old stories day after day. Even my source of information has gone quiet, so there is nothing much else to do except speculate about what might be. Everton could well have priced themselves out of the market if they want to sell Ellis Simms to a Championship club if they expect to get 10 million for him. He may score some goals but believe me, he is not that good!

My only hope is that Town has done due diligence and are very close to getting a striker before the weekend. The longer this goes on, the more painful it gets because it is not just about getting a new forward through the door but also getting him up to pace. This takes time, but sadly, time is not on our side at the moment, it seems.

Totally agree I can understand why it’s taking time but surely trying to get deals done as early as possible is beneficial to both club and player. Ellis Simms 10 million your having a laugh, no he’s not that good he’s about 2.5 million good if that at a push. Oh well maybe in the next week we’ll start to see some significant incomings.

Thank you Michael for taking the time to reply in a constructive manner and not just hurl insults in my general direction without explanation. Maybe Pete is a troll who searches the web for something to be critical about.

just such an awful article, perhaps the worst I’ve ever read

You have a big mouth Pete so start using it but explain why? I found the article in keeping with what is happening at Portman Road so if you disagree mate then don’t just throw out insults but explain why you moron!

    • Frank Weston says:

Nice Pete. I cannot disagree with you because you do not explain your displeasure. Perhaps the truth hurts.
