Why George Hirst Is Superior To Ellis Simms

This could be seen as a bit of a controversial topic, after all, Ipswich were interested in Simms. He was eventually sent to Coventry, and he has been relatively silent ever since! Simms has played 14 times for the Sky Blues so far and has scored two goals.

George Hirst, by comparison, has scored three but it is not so much about the goalscoring feats of either player that interests me, but what they contribute in general. For the record, Simms is averaging one goal per 370 minutes and Hirst in 289 minutes.

I was told by a lifelong Everton supporter that Simms is a bit of a lazy player, and does not track back very willingly. In the case of Hirst, the complete reverse is true. He runs his socks off for the team, and that is why supporters are so forgiving if he does not find the net. Fans love players who try, and George never stops running for the cause.

Hirst is also deceptively skilful and wanted to return to Portman Road, rather than play a bit part with Leicester City. Ironically perhaps, all parties seem happy now. For a striker, Hirst is unbelievably unselfish, and that is part of the reason that his goal tally is a bit on the meagre side. Ipswich paid a fraction of the price for George Hirst that Coventry City played for Ellis Simms, and we all know now who got the best deal now!

I agree. I am so happy that Georgie Boy came back to us and to be honest, I have never really rated Simms anyway.
