When Fortune Favours The Brave

Well that is what they say anyway and if there is some truth in it, then Town will progress to the final at Wembley.

All season and against all the odds the blues have managed to defy the laws of football logic.

Our total spend has been 110,000 and 90 percent of that was for Freddie Sears, who has turned out to be the bargain buy of the season!

If fortune favours the brave then it really ought to favour Ipswich Town football club, who have under the expert stewardship of Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor, have exceeded all expectations in their short reign in charge of the Suffolk club.

What Town lack in technical ability we more than make up for in team effort and this has earned the blues some vital points this term.

It has been a case of blood sweat and only a few few tears but of course if the worse case scenario became reality next Saturday, then we could expect bucket loads of them to be shed then!

Of course losing Jonathan Williams to injury yet again and the freak incident that curtailed loanee Luke Varney season made all of us wince and yet Mick McCarthy has refused to blame injuries for defeats and of course, we have been without the influential David McGoldrick for the last three months too.

As a squad our togetherness contrasts wonderfully from the days of Roy Keane and perhaps to a lesser extent, Paul Jewell.

Under McCarthy and Connor all the players seem to be pulling in the right direction and not against the grain – which was often apparent when the aforementioned managers were in charge.

The simplicity of the McCarthy regime is one of its most redeeming aspects. The players know their jobs and follow them out to the letter of the law. Under the gritty Yorkshire man there are no grey areas and clarity is the key to success!

Town will be out to ruffle a few feathers again in the second leg of their Championship play-off on Saturday and we can thank our former chairman David Sheepshanks for not have to suffer the indignity of losing to the away goal rule.

Whatever the outcome though, we can hold our heads high. This has been a fabulous campaign, engineered by a man who knows how to get the very best out of his rather limited squad and now we find ourselves just 90 minutes from Wembley and with everything still to play for!

Come on you blues!
