Town’s Young Guns Have A Bright Future

Yesterday, if you recall, we discovered that promising midfield prospect Andre Dozzell had committed his short term future to the Blues and today, we learned that young Welsh international keeper Michael Crowe and New Zealand international Monty Patterson, have also pledged their future to the club with offers of extended deals.

This is encouraging news because Crowe is just 20 and Patterson is only 21 so if they are prepared to stick with the Blues, then our future is already looking decidedly less gloomy.

They are still at the initial stages of their development but in the case of Monty he has already played a full international, with the men on the other side of the world and even scored!

He is a bright prospect but so too is keeper Crowe, who I think has great potential and with Bartosz Bialkowski and Dean Gerken still at the club, he should learn his trade more rapidly than most.

Goalkeepers anyway are notoriously late maturers as a rule so he has lots of time on his side to fully develop his trade.

Manager Mick McCarthy has previously announced that the Blues would be exercising their one-year option on midfielder Kundai Benyu, who will be involved tonight against Tranmere Rovers for Aldershot in the first leg of their Vanarama National League play-off match.

Whilst at the academy, goalkeeper Harry Wright, who is the 18-year-old son of former Town favourite Richard has been offered another one-year deal having already impressed at this level.

The only bit of disappointing news to report today is that Paul Digby will be leaving the club having failed to make much of an impact but there is better news for injury prone striker Callum Fullwood, who will have his scholarship extended into next season apparently.

And finally, some more refreshing news to report! Ipswich Town Ladies recorded a much-needed victory over local rivals Norwich City at the Goldstar Ground, running out 5-1 winners in an exciting encounter.

The sad news is that Ipswich ladies finished 9th in a division of just 12 teams but two ahead of Norwich, who finished just one place off the bottom!
