So What Do You Think Town Should Do?

The good news today is that young Andre Dozzell has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him here until 2020 but what other good news can we expect over the next few weeks?

A win away at Nottingham Forest might give us some hope for next season and condemn them to life in Division One but I am not really expecting it.

With it being live on Sky we will probably underperform once more and save their bacon but I will be glued to the television next Sunday at midday, just in case.

Let’s face it though, it has been a hugely disappointing season and we cannot put all of the blame on manager Mick McCarthy – although he has been his own worst enemy with the comments he has aired about supporters, who are not ingratiated with him anymore.

In fact some of us, including myself, never wanted him to get the job in the first place but that is a long time in the past now.

So what have we learned this campaign? Well, we know already that if we are serious about challenging – even for a play-off place next term, Marcus Evans will have to blow some cobwebs off his wallet and start spending big again!

Whatever we care to say about Mick McCarthy, he has not had the spending power of Roy Keane or indeed Paul Jewell and yet nor did Joe Royle in fairness.

He however provided us with a team that played entertaining football and got us into the playoffs playing it and we lost in the end, rather narrowly to West Ham United.

He was also very attack-minded and Mick McCarthy is the complete opposite to Royle with his over-cautious approach to most matches – even sometimes in home games.

I know ex-Ipswich captain Mick Mills is not inclined to agree with me on this but generally speaking, I have noted that managers that either played in midfield or attack as players, tend to adopt very similar approaches when they start to manage too.

I guess it is in their DNA and we cannot forget that Mick McCarthy was a rugged centre half as a player and he obviously not forgotten his roots! You could point to George Burley being a defender but he was one of the game’s first attack-minded wing backs so I would argue that he was more offensive than defensive but pretty good at both, if my memory serves me correctly?
