Ipswich Town have officially confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender Reece Wabara on loan until January 2012.

Blues manager Paul Jewell revealed on Thursday that he was close to completing a deal for Wabara, who will go straight into the squad for Town’s home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. The centre-back or right-back made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers in May, but was not included in City boss Roberto Mancini’s 25-man squad for the 2011/12 season.

Even though Wabara’s loan is for the same 93-day period as fellow loanees Danny Collins and Daryl Murphy, the timing of the deal means the 19-year-old will remain at Portman Road up to the January transfer window. However, Manchester City are understood to be keen to keep hold of the England U20 international despite stiff competition in their defence with Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards.
