Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has revealed that he is close to bringing in Manchester City defender Reece Wabara on loan.

Wabara, who can play at centre-back or right-back, was included in Brian Eastick’s England squad for the U20 World Cup earlier in the summer. The 19-year-old, whose grandfather was a Nigerian international, has made just one substitute appearance for the senior Manchester City team.

Having recently been speaking with City first team coach David Platt regarding possible loanees from Eastlands, Jewell revealed that he is close to completing a 93-day deal for Wabara, who looks set to rival Carlos Edwards at full-back.

‘He’s a right-back, who can also play at centre-half, but mainly he’ll play at right-back,’ Jewell told the Official Club Website. ‘He’s an England U20 international who’s quick and strong and he will provide plenty of competition to Carlos.’

Aside from further players coming in, Jewell is also still looking to send fringe players elsewhere on loan having circulated a list of names to other clubs. Jaime Peters, Andy Drury and Jamie Griffiths are already out on loan, while Shane O’Connor and Tamas Priskin are also expected to leave.
