Sheffield Wedneday carried on their good run of form of late with a 2-0 win over Town who once again failed to produce the goods away from home.

A goal just after half time and midway through the second half handed The Owls all three points and a slither of a chance of making the play-offs.

Ipswich started the encounter the brighter of the two teams with Town forcing five corners from Wednesday in the first ten minutes, but failed to test Turner in the Wednesday goal.

There were only one or two moments worth of a mention in the first half which were Alan Lee’s freekick which was well kept out by the impressive Turner in the Wednesday goal and Jeffers striking the bar from a close range strike.

The game failed to come to life until the second half when in a game where the first goal will always be crucial in its outcome, Whelan netted home for The Owls just two minutes after the break. Whelan, having been played through the static Ipswich defence, put a low strike past Lewis Price.

This lead was then doubled when Maclean was neatly put through on goal by Kenny Lunt and smashed home Wednesday’s second goal. This deflated Ipwsich and was telling in Town’s play after that goal.

However, Town’s play did turn towards the end of the match which saw Jeffers strike the inside of the post with a superb freekick for the rebound only to be wasted high above the bar by Harding.

This result left Magilton taking the positives out of a game where neither team really sparkled. Magilton was dissapointed in the fashion that Town conceded the goals but wasn’t too unhappy with the performance of Town. Magilton said in his post-match interview that he is already looking to next season and conceded there is little to play for in this one.

Brian Laws, on the other hand, was happy with the result which gives them a chance of pushing for a play-off place and ultimately a chance for promotion.
