It has been a topsy turvy season so far for Ipswich Town football club and although we are free scoring we are also free leaking, and the game tonight against Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road, could once again provide us with lots of goals.
The next question is who for? Well, that might well depend on who scores first and what team manager Mick McCarthy selects?
He has both Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop to call upon but it would be unrealistic to expect both to start – although McCarthy has said he will make changes to the side that defeated Preston 3-0 two weeks ago, again here in Suffolk.
Our record in front of those Sky camera’s certainly needs improving – if only for the world wide audience and those Tractor Boys and girls, observing events from every corner of the globe.
Jonas Knudsen is suspended, which opens the door for Myles Kenlock to stake a claim for the left back slot but McCarthy has already said that even if Kenlock plays out of his skin, he will lose his place to Knudsen on Saturday away at Aston Villa.
‘Sometimes the manager`s got a settled team and those not in it have to accept that. But if somebody gets injured and you have three good games, then that puts the pressure on the manager to say; ‘Do you know what? He deserves to stay in!’ Mick McCarthy explained.
Sheffield Wednesday have no new injury concerns and hope that winger Ross Wallace will be able again. He missed training earlier in the week with flu like symptoms but Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal remains optimistic he can pull through.
George Boyd, Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri remain unavailable however but there are no new injury concerns for our Yorkshire visitors who always bring a big following.
The good news is that Ipswich have only lost two of their last 16 league games against the Owls. The bad news is that they both occurred at Portman Road in October 2012 and again April 2017.
Perhaps better news is that The Tractor Boys have gained more points from losing positions than any other side in the division so if we go a goal down there is no immediate need to despair.
I think it will be another draw. That is what my head says but my heart predicts a 3-1 victory to Town!
