This Is My Ipswich Town Eleven

You are all perfectly entitled to disagree with me, and I am sure some of you will.  Here is my Town eleven for our kick-off against Bolton Wanderers later this month.

  1. CHRISTIAN WALTON: Perhaps the easiest choice of all given his performances for the Blues last season. I doubt anyone would disagree with this part of my team selection. He is one of our better goalkeepers of recent years.
  2. JANOI DONACIEN: Once again, a relatively easy decision based on his excellent displays the last term, in which he came close to winning the Player of the year award and was only pipped to the post by a certain Mr Burns!
  3. GREG LEIG: This Jamaican left-wing-back will keep his place in my team – unless we recruit Lefi Davis from Leeds United, which seems less than likely as things stand as Davis is not fond of a move to Suffolk apparently.
  4. LEE EVANS: As he proved against Doncaster Rovers last season at Portman Road, a fully fit Lee Evans is a real asset. He can also captain the side if required to do so, and his physicality and energy are real assets.
  5. GEORGE EDMUNDSON: Like a lot of our centre-backs in recent years, Edmundson is very far from faultless, but he compensates for this with attitude and commitment to the cause. His is good in the air and on the ground.
  6. LUKE WOOLFENDEN: I was delighted when he was brought out of the deep freeze by manager McKenna, and he has proved to be well worth his place in the Town team, as like a good wine he improves with time.
  7. SAM MORSY: He repeatedly proved last season his true worth to the team, and his physical presence and his ability to nick a few goals added to his contribution. Morsy I think will be on most supporters’ team sheets for good reason!
  8. CONOR CHAPLIN: He is another player with deceptive skills who has already scored a hat-trick in pre-season. He not only scores goals but also creates chances for others. I like to watch him and I am not the only one!
  9. TYREECE JOHN-JULES: This is a big call but if he can get back in shape then he has to start. He has played for England at all levels from 16 to 21 and trained with Arsenal’s first-team many times and was admired in London.
  10. KAYDEN JACKSON: I did not think I would include him in my team a few months back, but he thoroughly deserves to be there now, given his excellent end-of-season performances. Let’s just hope he stays fit!
  11. WES BURNS: Who else I hear you ask?! Burns has been a revelation at Town and has now been rewarded by inclusion in the Welsh World Cup squad. He is a stand-out player for the Blues and will continue to improve.

So there we go. That is my prefered Town team as things stand, but I’m sure there will be more additions before the season starts at Portman Road on the 30th of July!
