This Bad Habit Has Got To End

This is a re-occurring theme but I was hoping Town’s New Year’s resolution would be to stop it from happening because this bad habit has got to end. I am referring, of course, to letting leads slip, and it has occurred far too often this season to suggest it is just bad luck. This is a psychological problem that needs to be resolved and very quickly.

I am sorry to say that even at this level, losing leads with such regularity is unacceptable, and if we don’t change our ways we will have to make do with those dreaded playoffs again! The Blues have dropped a staggering 15 points from winning positions this season, so the idea that it could just be unfortunate is pie in the sky!

In fairness to Town, after they scored they were on top, and then that nasty head injury to Plymouth defender Dan Scarr helped us to lose our momentum and from that moment on, we were a pale shadow of our former selves. It came at a crucial time in the game, because I feel sure if that had not have happened we may well haveĀ  gone on to increase our lead. After that frustrating pause, even keeper Walton seemed in no rush to get things moving again. His goal kicking was woeful, and had probably his worst game in a Blue shirt. Sadly, too many players under-performed today.

Freddie Ladapo may be technically gifted but he is far too profligate in front of goal, and even though his hold up play is good, I was not impressed with him at all. My Man of The Match for Ipswich would be Luke Woolfenden, who was excellent throughout. For Argyle it would be former Blue James Wilson. Why we we let him go is baffling.

And manager Kieran McKenna is not blameless this time either. After a long injury delay he brought on Kane Vincent-Young on, when he should have introduced Kyle Edwards to boost our attacking threat. He went for a defence-minded player and it cost us in the end. We should have been going all out to get another goal and not to give one away! When I saw 9 minutes added, I was convinced we would not hold out.
