The Ins And Outs At Ipswich Town

As the transfer window begins to close with ever-increasing rapidity, Ipswich Town were rather busy today, with one defender coming in and another one heading out.

I have mixed feelings about all this defensive activity because it is not one-way traffic and I am very sorry to see Greg Leigh sign for Oxford United this afternoon. Some suggest that League One is the best he could have hoped for because he would not be good enough at Championship level. That is utter rubbish, and Janoi Donacien, who was bought by former boss Paul Hirst in his brief spell in charge is still holding his own in the league above and yet, some people had the audacity to suggest that he was not good enough for League One not long ago! Leigh was a strength, not a weakness.

And today in came Brandon Williams from Manchester United! He has even played Champions League football so I guess we should all be grateful – unlike our fiercest rivals who booed him off the pitch when he was on loan to them recently. Although the 22-year-old is naturally right-footed he likes to play on the left side when he is employed as a wing-back. In his younger years, he has played in midfield too so he is versatile. Interstingly, he is around the same height as Conor Chaplin at 5ft 7 inches.

I still think manager Kieran Mckenna will want another centre-back and another speedy forward before the window closes.  If not, then Elkan Bagott is going nowhere, and now that Town have lost Kyle Edwards the need to find another attack-minded player is of paramount importance. I think this is imperative, and before the window closes!
