Lower league opponents, from league 1, are faced in the first round league cup by Ipswich tonight as they look to avoid an upset.

Ipswich travel to Crawley as the sides, in a first ever competitive meeting, lock horns.

Crawley boss John Gregory doesn’t have any injury concerns to contend with and following an opening day debut goal Izale McLeod is expected to start again as Crawley seek our scalp.

Mick McCarthy took off striker Balint Bajner in the first half of their championship win over Fulham, he is lacking fitness but this would be a game viewed as an ‘ideal one’ for this to be build up in.

McCarthy also suggests that almost a dozen players could be unavailable to him due to ‘knocks and scrapes’.

Town made the semi finals in 2010/11 but since then have only made it past the first round once in the last three attempts, even then it was a second round exit last season!

Who will win on Tuesday night? It’s hard to say but you would like to think that our status and a little more quality will see us through….
