Ipswich have already started talking to Sunderland about the permanent signing of loan striker Daryl Murphy, according to some tabloids.

The Irishman has scored six times since joining the Blues on deadline day of the January transfer window and perhaps not surprisingly, other teams are now said to be sniffing around Murphy. The player himself seems happy enough at Ipswich judging by his performances on the pitch, but is unlikely to be too happy at the wage drop he would have to take to seal a permanent switch a Portman Road.

Murphy said earlier in the season that he would have been a Blues player permanently at the start of the campaign had not Hull have interfered, a move which later fell through and left Town to pursue other targets.

I think its fair to say he won’t be in Sunderland’s plans next season – ex-Ipswich star Darren Bent has been the Black Cats player of the season, while Steve Bruce also has the likes of Kenwyne Jones and Fraizer Campbell at his disposal. Hopefully this will swing in Town’s favour and they will get him at a cut price – his value is currently around a million pounds, which would buy him out of his contract.
