No Butt, But Someone Similar

Ipswich probably won’t be signing veteran Nicky Butt when his contract expires at Newcastle in the summer.

After the Magpies-Town match a fortnight ago, Keano suggested that Butt should continue playing as long as he could, which then led to reports claiming Ipswich were looking to sign him. Instead of specifically targeting the 35-year-old, Blues gaffer Roy Keane says he will be looking to sign someone in a similar mould to his former Man U teammate.

‘I have never spoken about getting Nicky Butt here,’ explained Roy.

‘He`s a good lad, but I made a point of telling him that he should carry on playing. The type of experience and character that Nicky has would be vital, but to say we`re going to sign Nicky Butt would be way off the mark.’
