Blues young striker Ronan Murray came off the bench to score the winner and take Swindon Town into the southern section final of the Johnston Paint Trophy.

Murray proved the difference as Swindon ended Southend United’s unbeaten run of 17 games without loss in the semi-final at Roots Hall.

The win sets up Murray’s new team-mates with a two-legged final against Barnet who beat Brentford on penalties.

Meanwhile, in the northern section, former Town favourite the Flying Finn Shefki Kuqi took Oldham into their final against Chesterfield after banging in the second goal in their 2-0 win over Bradford City.

And as an aside, another former Blue, and old team-mate of Shefki, Ian Westlake has joined the MLS’ newest franchise Montreal.
