Roy Keane won’t be signing released West Brom defender Carl Hoefkens.

Newspaper reports over the weekend said that Ipswich were interested in bringing the Belgian to Portman Road, something that Hoefkens backed up by saying he was on trial at the club earlier this summer and things may have been different.

He told the EADT: ‘I came to Ipswich for a trial three weeks ago but there was a bit of confusion really.

‘I thought I was just coming for a day or so to prove my fitness but Ipswich wanted me to stay and train with them. I had already promised to go to Belgium, France, Holland and Germany.’

The 30-year-old expressed desire to stay in England and praised Ipswich’s set-up: ‘Ipswich are a big side in the Championship and Roy Keane is a very ambitious man who wants to take them up. I believe they have the ability, facilities and ambition to go up and will be in with a good chance of doing that.

‘I’m ready to be involved in a team like that and would like the opportunity to win promotion and be in the Premier League again.’

Despite the former Stoke man indicating he would like a move to Suffolk, Keano doesn’t want to sign him. The gaffer said: ‘He won’t be signing for Ipswich. We didn’t see enough of him. He trained the one day and we never saw him again.

“We were hoping he would stay a week or two. It is nothing personal with the boy but we won’t be taking it further.’
