On loan defender Frazer Richardson has admitted that the season hasn’t quite gone how he would’ve liked owing to injuries, but having featured far more often lately, he’s now hoping that he’s done enough to earn himself a permanent contract at the club for next season.

The 31 year old joined us from Middlebrough back in January, but has only played five games for us, and only completed 90 minutes once in the game against Bournemouth on Monday, having been dogged by injuries so far.

Speaking to the Ipswich Star, he explained.

‘I’d love to stay here to be quite honest, but it’s not for me to decide – it’s for the powers that be. I hope I have shown enough in training and in the game, I think I have. I’m not really match fit at the minute. My last 90 minutes was in December so the Bournemouth game was the first I’ve started for a very long time.’

Richardson goes on to say that in that game he felt he did do alright, although obviously as the second half went on, he did get tired and he could really feel his legs again, but that’s natural and he knows the more he plays the sharper and fitter he will be.

He also admitted that the pull of playing for manager Mick McCarthy was another reason he’d like to remain at the club.

‘Mick is fantastic. He’s honest and has this willingness to want you to work hard first and foremost. Mick’s always up there when you talk about the best managers.’

He goes on to say that alongside Terry Connor, they do get their points across brilliantly and that only makes life easier for a player because you know exactly what is expected of you, and when you don’t live up to that there are words, but also importantly praise when you have done well.
