Sammy Morgan is the new manager of the Ipswich Town academy, replacing the departed Tony Humes.

‘Sammy was the obvious choice for the position,’ head of player development Bryan Klug told the club site.

‘He is vastly experienced in the development of young footballers and has a wealth of knowledge of the game in general.’

Morgan was in a similar position at arch-rivals Norwich City until 2004, when he joined the Blues to become head of education at the academy.

Northern Irishman Morgan also told the club site that he is relishing his new role: ‘I am obviously delighted to have been offered the position of academy manager at Ipswich Town and I’m looking forward to the challenge of pushing the club forward at youth level.

‘Ipswich Town has a very good reputation in terms of developing young players and my challenge is to make sure that continues.’

He will be responsible for bringing through the likes of Bermudan international Reggie Lambe, pictured.
