Manager Mick McCarthy has hailed the character and spirit of the players following the two all draw with Bournemouth on Easter Monday.

Ipswich took the lead twice in the game but just couldn’t hold on for all three points, with Bournemouth really bringing the game to us.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer described the players as being ‘magnificent’ because he knew some of them were running on empty by the end of the match, but he couldn’t have asked for more from them.

‘My players were absolutely magnificent and I’m bursting with pride with them. A lot were running on empty, having played two games in three days, and against a good team in Bournemouth, who pass the ball around very well.’

Mick goes on to say that Bournemouth obviously also had an extra days rest, and whilst it might only be 24 hours, it doesn’t count for a lot, so in some ways the fact he’s ‘disappointed we didn’t win the game having been in front twice’ speaks volumes for the effort they put in over the 90 minutes.

Obviously for our play off hopes a win would’ve took us above Brighton with how results played out, but a point from the day does only keep us one point off them.

McCarthy wasn’t going to be down beat either over the manner of their second equaliser, because he knows there was nothing we could do about a shot that took that wicked a deflection before going, but he knows at points this season luck has been on our side and we’ve benefited from it and they do say it balances out and last night it went against it so it’s ‘one of those things.’

‘We have come a long way this year and here we are with two games to go, still in with a chance of getting in the top six and the players deserve so much credit for that. They have been remarkable.’

Shame at this stage we aren’t playing Brighton or Wigan so it was more in our hands, so all we can do is ensure we try and get the maximum six available from Burnley and Sheff W, so if somebody does slip up, we are the ones to take advantage of it.
