McCarthy – We Deserved A Point

Manager Mick McCarthy has said he believes our performance was worthy of a point when we faced Reading on Saturday.

We had chances to draw level in the game, especially Tyrone Mings’ effort deflecting off the crossbar in the final minute, but unfortunately we couldn’t take our chances and that was a disappointment for the manager as he spoke to Official Site but otherwise he had been very pleased with our showing.

‘I was happy with the performance, certainly the second half and I’ve told the players that. We did enough to have got something from the game but we didn’t take the chances we had and they had ‘jonny on the spot’ and that was the difference.’

McCarthy goes on to say that their goal was unfortunately a mistake from us in his eyes.

‘Didz was the last man out, he has seen we are overloaded. I think he was trying to send the ball back to Gerks. If a defender was there he probably would’ve put his foot through it but I’ll forgive him.’

Jay Tabb echoed the thoughts of the gaffer in saying he felt we at least deserved the draw.

‘I thought the lads did well but unfortunately the result doesn’t reflect our performance. The manager wasn’t too happy with our first half performance but I certainly thought we improved in the second and probably deserved something from the game.’
