The Blues can take a huge step towards redemption when they take on, and hopefully beat, Crystal Palace Tuesday night at Portman Road.
Town, under Mick McCarthy, took a frightful beat at Selhurst Park in Ian Holloway’s first real game in charge.
But since then Palace have fallen away and are no real promotion threat, while Town have improved dramatically.
A win would not only exorcise that particular ghost but take Town to 56 points, a margin which could be enough for survival with three games to go.
McCarthy said: We have not got them as yet but I still think 56 points will be enough, although I didn’t get everything right.’
Palace didn’t play at the weekend as their scheduled opponents Millwall were involved in an FA Cup battle at Wembley and while McCarthy feels it won’t help Ipswich he is just getting on with it.
‘IMy attitude has always been keep calm and carry on and that hasn’t changes.
‘Palalce didn’t play when they should ahve and that won’t make it any easier for us but I don’t seem to have done anything easy in my life.’
The visit of Palace could see the return of Irish midfielder Owen Garvan, which would suit Town’ pedestrian midfield, although Anthony Wordsworth could get just his second start for the Blues.
