Having returned to the training ground today and put pen to paper on a new three year deal with the club, just as assistant manager Terry Connor also did, manager Mick McCarthy has reiterated the fact that he wants to see further growth from Ipswich in 2014-15, and hopefully growth that will see us reach of our aim of securing promotion to the Premier League this year.

Speaking to the Official Site as the announcement of the contracts was made, the gaffer joked.

‘I’m delighted with it, more importantly I hope everyone else is delighted with it. I’m enjoying my time here and we are making progress. The challenge now is to continue to make progress.’

He goes on to say that in his time in charge so far, he hopes the players are enjoying their time at the club, and can see what we are working towards, and obviously are enjoying working with him and Connor.

‘We’ve got a good group here and we need to push on now and build on the progression that we had last season.’

Whether our growth under his new contract will be as marked as our changing fortunes in his first full season in charge remain to be seen, but sitting bottom when he came in back in October 2012 and then achieving survival and then bettering that by registering our highest league finish last term since 2009 shows we are going in the right direction and we just have to hope we can now make that jump into the Play Off spots, or better still, the automatic promotion places.
