The partnership of Jim Magilton and Bryan Klug look to be the new favourites to land the Ipswich managment job.

Magilton who left the clubs playing staff at the end of last season, would have current academy director Klug above him as director of football.

Town have been publicly rejected by former defenders Tony Mowbray and Terry Butcher, who took the job in Australia, and target Colin Calderwood chose Nottingham Forest.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones decided to stay in Wales, the same applies to Mike Newell, who was reportadly interviewed but chose to stay at Luton.

Town were denied permission to talk to Colchester’s Phil Parkinson, and Steve Tilson at Southend, and the same is believed to have happened with Billy Davies, although this has not gone public.

Nigel Pearson and Graham Rix were also mentioned, but were ruled out and didnt make the shortlist.

The only man not to have turned down the job, or have it turned down for them, is Ian Holloway. But speculation regarding Tony Pullis’s return to Stoke has seen him installed as favourite for the Plymouth Job, which has led to such strong beliefs that it will be Magilton who gets the nod.
